These gorgeous Tanzanian Iringa Baskets are woven by women in the Iringa and Njombe regions of East Africa. From preparing and dyeing the local reeds to weaving the baskets, only female hands are involved in the making of this traditional African craft. The plants that produce the dye for these baskets are only available in the Njombe region southwest of Tanzania.
We source this product from a business that works directly in meaningful relationship with the weavers, and pays a fair wage. The good energy of the female African makers and the American women who source and process the baskets is tangible.
